Meet Dave Robens
As a result of my alternative and formal work toward personal development, I have recently put my life’s purpose into words: I am here to help myself and others maximize our potential! In 2005, I took a number of counselling psychology courses to prepare me for my Masters degree in Occupational Therapy, the practice of working with others to help them function best in their environment. Since 2007 I have been practicing occupational therapy with individuals with brain injury, but more seriously with seniors. Working with seniors, especially in palliative care, has really provided me with wisdom around what is most important in life. As my journey continues, it leads me to formal and informal avenues for self-discovery, which I have now recognized as a passion of mine, likely since 1992. I have been working informally with a coach for three plus years - we cofounded a men’s group that ran for approximately one and a half years. This coach pushes me outside of my comfort zone regularly, and has been an excellent resource for self-discovery; as I have been for him as well. I also saw a counsellor who helped me to chip away at the life habits I had developed as a child that were no longer serving me. Bringing childhood-formed habits into my consciousness has helped me to live intentionally, and decreased my tendency toward living automatically; to translate strategies developed with the intellect of a child into behaviours that are much better at guiding my life in The Now. And during this process, I developed a model to empower oneself to live a life that resonates with who each individual truly wants to be - The Circle of Choice! |
